CAPC Survey on Palliative Care leadership during the pandemic

by | Sep 6, 2022

“What keeps you up at night?”

“Has the perceived value of palliative care changed since the start of the pandemic?”

“What operational changes have you made in the last few years that you will continue?”

The Center to Advance Palliative Care (CAPC) provides tools and training for those who work with seriously ill patients. CAPC recently surveyed palliative care leaders who found themselves challenged by many new issues during the pandemic, managing volumes with less staff, growing demand in many new areas, burnout of themselves, the team and their colleagues, etc. With 150 responses, there were tragic and inspirational sentiments conveyed, many pointing to systemic issues that were out of their control, but finding ways to positively impact those around them. The pandemic has highlighted the benefit of palliative care, now how do we manage the new demand with recruitment being so difficult?
